Herzliya is a small, sea-front city located 10 km north of Tel Aviv and the Old Port of Jaffa. It is also the heart of the Israeli hi-tech industry and headquarters to many of the leading international and Israeli companies operating here. Just 40 km up the coast to Cesarea, with its ancient archaeological ruins (and Israel's best – and only! – golf course), and 80 km to Jerusalem, Herzliya is a centrally located starting-point for touring throughout the country.
For those considering a longer stay in Israel, we would be happy to provide assistance and recommendations regarding trips throughout the country or to Jordan and Egypt. Requests for information can be sent by e-mail to Sarah Friedman Hagbi at sarah@novacom.co.il.

A block of 18 rooms has been reserved at the Daniel Hotel for the dates May 11-15. These rooms and rates are guaranteed for bookings made prior to May 5, 1998. The hotel is unable to hold unbooked rooms after this date, although bookings may still be possible subject to availability. A smaller block of rooms has been reserved for the dates May 8-11 and May 15-17 for those wishing to stay through the weekend preceding or following the meeting.
In order to simplify the reservation process, all reservations will be made centrally through Novacom. Reservation requests should be completed using the Booking Form and sent by e-mail or fax to the attention of Sarah Friedman Hagbi [sarah@novacom.co.il; Fax +972 9 7464422].
You will receive a confirmation of your reservation by return e-mail or fax. It is desirable that all reservations be made by April 30 in order to determine appropriate meeting room requirements.
Flight arrangements should be made into Ben Gurion International Airport, which is located east of Tel Aviv, and approximately 25 km from the hotel.
There is no organized shuttle service between the airport and the hotel. However, we would be happy to arrange taxi transportation – the cost of a taxi is approximately $20 each way – for anyone who so wishes. If you would like us to make arrangements for a taxi to meet you upon your arrival, please contact Sarah Friedman Hagbi by e-mail with the following details: date/time of arrival, airline and flight number.
We would recommend renting a car only to those of you planning to arrive prior to or remain following the conference for touring purposes. Within Herzliya – the location of the Daniel Hotel – a car is unnecessary. The hotel is located on the beach, and within walking or very short taxi distance of restaurants and shops. Tel Aviv is just 15 km south of Herzliya, and around $14 by taxi.
For those who wish to rent a car nonetheless, there is a large selection of car rental agencies located at the airport – Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Reliable, Thrifty. It should be noted however that the cost of gas (or petrol, if you prefer) in Israel is quite expensive: currently $3.35/gallon, or $0.84/liter.
Anyone planning to drive should contact Sarah Friedman Hagbi for maps and specific directions.
The weather in Israel in May is beautiful, sunny and warm. Rain is a distant memory by this time of year, so leave your umbrellas at home, but make sure to bring good sunscreen!
We will be arranging a couple of optional evening tours, one to Tel Aviv and the Old Port of Jaffa, and another to the ruins of Caesarea during the week of the conference for those who wish to do some touring between the 12th and the 15th.
Here are the details of the optional tours.
For anyone planning to stay the weekend, the hotel offers free guided tours to Jerusalem every Saturday. In addition, specific requests for information or assistance in planning individual tours can be referred to Sarah Friedman Hagbi.
