RE: [802SEC] CD-ROM Duties
Geoff,
I'm confused. The text of procedure 6 just says that the Executive Secretary
helps generate the information for IEEE book distribution to the Working
Group. It doesn't seem to say anything about who causes the CD-ROMs to come
into being.
It seems reasonable for the LMSC Chair to delegate some of the CD-ROM
preparation duties to someone like the Recording Secretary, but the rules
don't mandate it.
It isn't clear to me whether it requires a rules change to not produce the
CD-ROM or whether the last sentence gives enough leeway for the LMSC Chair
to decide to not do it anymore.
I've got mixed feelings about producing the CD-ROM. It is convenient to not
have to download the files. It also seems bad to have our increased support
of the IEEE process cause a reduction in what we receive. That is, because
we now contribute $75 a head three times a year we might not get the CD-ROM.
But producing the CD-ROM also seems like an effort with limited return. If I
was voting on it, I would abstain.
Regards,
Pat

Procedure 6
POLICY FOR DISTRIBUTION OF NEW IEEE LMSC STANDARDS
PUBLICATIONS
1. Books will be distributed to those participants of the Working Group and
major contributors
listed in front matter of the standard who directly contributed to that
standard or supplement.
The LMSC Chair will establish the book distribution policy. The Executive
Secretary in
conjunction with the Working Group chair will implement the policy including
generating
information to provide to the IEEE Office for any distribution by IEEE
Standards.
2. CD-ROMs, containing all IEEE 802 standards available at that point in
time, available
normally at the July Plenary on an annual basis, will be distributed to
registered attendees who
are Working Group voting members or SEC members at the issuing meeting, and
at
subsequent plenary meetings for those not attending the issuing meeting
until a new CD-ROM
is available. Handout will occur on Wednesday (8AM-5PM).
The CD-ROM program will be reviewed annually by the IEEE 802 Chair and the
IEEE
Standards Department to ensure its appropriateness and to make any
adjustments in the
product development process and business arrangements that might be
necessary.
