In agreement with Bob's comment.

Full support for this from me too.

This SEC member supports it. We don't need the 802 web master chasing
people for updates. To have a single update for the meetings helps
everyone. To keep the URL constant is a reasonable constraint on web
design.

David, This sounds very reasonable to me. Let's see what the SEC
thinks about your proposal.

Hi Buzz,

Can I suggest that each Working Group and Executive Committee Study
Group has a 'Interims' page that lists their upcoming interims at a
fixed location such as:-

http://www.ieee802.org/X/interims/index.html

where X is the 'dot' number or ECSG designation. For example 802.3's
page would be at the URL :-

http://www.ieee802.org/3/interims/index.html

and the Link Security ECSG would be at:

http://www.ieee802.org/linksec/interims/index.html

These pages would be the responsibility of the respective Working Groups
/ Executive Committee Study Groups to maintain with up to date interim
information or just a statement that the next time the group will meet
is the upcoming plenary meeting. The 802 page
[http://www.ieee802.org/meeting/index.html ] would then simply provide a
link to each Working Groups Interims meeting page, this page would then
look like something:

                      IEEE 802 - LAN/MAN Standards Committee

o March 2003 Plenary Meeting Information (PDF)
Updated 03
 Dec 2002
o March 2003 Plenary Meeting Information (HTML)
Updated 03
 Dec 2002
o Future Meetings Future Plenary Meeting Schedule (HTML)
Updated 15
 Nov 2002

o Upcoming Interim meetings

   o IEEE 802.1 Interim Meetings
   o IEEE 802.3 Interim Meetings
   o IEEE 802. ..........
   o IEEE 802.20 Interim Meetings
o IEEE 802 Link Security Executive Committee Study Group Interim
Meetings

This would finally de-couple the 802 page from the Working Group
Interim's meeting pages. The 802 page then would only need updated for
plenary information which to me is the right way to do this. For example
there is still a link there at the moment that reads 'January 2003 -
IEEE 802.1/.3 Interim Meeting Updated -12 Dec 2002' that actually takes
you to the notice for the 802.3 January Mipitas and February Raleigh
meetings, neither of which involve 802.1. If there was simply just a
link to the 802.1 and 802.3 Interims page this issue shouldn't occur.

Thanks very much,
  David

Tom, I think it would be a very good idea to produce a written
description of what exactly is going to be done and how each WG could
make use of the general facility for tracking Interim Meeting
Information. I would circulate the document to the SEC for comment
before proceeding with the implementation. If we are going to create a
standard facility, we should make sure we have consensus on the plan
first.

PS: If you're just talking about fixing David's Link for now, that's OK
too; but we definitely do need a standard way to do this that minimizes
the number of time we have to update the "Meetings" page.

Hi Facetoface webmaster,

Please note that the link on the above web page [
http://www.ieee802.org/meeting/index.html ] marked 'January 2003 IEEE
802.1/.3 Interim Meeting' is in fact a link to the IEEE 802.3 Interims
web page and while we endeavor to meet jointly with 802.1 wherever
possible this is not always the case. In addition, 802.3 holds more
Interim meetings than 802.1, for example we have 802.3 only meetings
January 28th through 31th in Santa Clara and February 17th & 18th in
Research Triangle Park NC. I have therefore CCed Neil Jarvis, the 802.1
Web master, as he may be able to give you a permanent link on their web
site to link to that is a similar page to the 802.3 Interims web page [
http://www.ieee802.org/3/interims/index.html ].

Please also note that the URL referenced [
http://www.ieee802.org/3/interims/index.html ] is a fixed URL that is
continuously updated with the future IEEE P802.3 Interim meetings
therefore the URL does not need changed and the link should not be
marked with any particular date - if not it will need changed for each
of the 802.3 Interims that we hold which could be a lot of effort and
simply duplicates the work already done for the 802.3 page. Hence the
text beside the link to the 802.3 Interims web page should simply read
'Future IEEE 802.3 Interim meetings' or something similar.

Thanks very much for your help.

Best regards,
  David Law
