It's rarely safe to assume that silence means agreement. I, for instance,
do not agree with some of his points. Namely,
- using binary curve K-283. There is IPR all over binary curves and it's
much safer to use prime curves. I would resist any attempt to require
a binary curve with 11ai. 802.11-2012 today expressly forbids the use
of binary curves and I see no reason to change that for 11ai.
- I also do not agree that this must be ECC only.
- hashed public keys does not seem like as good an idea as just raw
public keys.
An Internet-Draft is not a "scheme standardized with IETF", and I
don't
see how a "named information" URI is useful in this context.
- Let me reiterate my disagreements, made over the phone on the
teleconference,
with the whole "piggy-backed info" approach.
The minutes from the last meeting in Palm Springs stated that if there
was
opposition to SIV that there be comment on the reflector about that
opposition
as well as suggested alternative text. We have seen neither of those.
Statements
of options, and expressing opinions regarding the relevance of the express
prohibitions on reused nonces that occur in the GCM, CCM, and OCB
specifications
are not opposition or alternative text.
Furthermore, if there is some unwritten requirement to use NIST approved
cipher modes then we should use those algorithms correctly. Poo-pooing the
prohibitions that NIST makes on using these approved cipher modes renders
their "approved" use meaningless.
Another comment on NIST. Can someone please show me the list of
NIST-approved
EAP methods? 802.11 uses EAP and if there is a requirement to use NIST
approved algorithms then, surely, there's a list of such EAP methods that
NIST approves of.
regards,
Dan.
