Re: [STDS-802-11-TGM] 11me/D1.0 CID 1992 ("beacon interval")

I'm not sure I follow.  There are literally hundreds of instances of

"beacon interval" in 11me/D1.0.  I don't think it's realistic to be

able to remove them all, nor is it clear what one would put instead.

Thanks,

Mark

Question for Mark R.

If we change the definition of beacon interval, and then remove where it is used, do we still need it?

Jon

Hi Mark,

Here, are my suggestions:

See how they grab you.

Graham

In 3.2, change the definition of "beacon interval"

from

beacon interval: The time interval between two consecutive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs).]

to:
beacon interval: An interval of time equal to the time interval between two consecutive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs).
NOTE--A beacon interval is a duration; it does not necessarily start at a TBTT.

In 10.2.3.2 change "within an interval of time equal to one beacon interval" to "within one beacon interval"

The text is

A QoS STA, on receiving an updated EDCA Parameter Set element, should update the dot11EDCATable as soon as practical in the implementation and shall update the dot11EDCATable within an interval of time equal to one beacon interval.

So I AGREE with your change here.

In [10.39.2] (first one) change "within a beacon interval" to "in the time interval between TBTTs" (or "within a beacon interval starting at a TBTT"?)

In [10.39.2] (others) change "within a beacon interval" to "within a beacon interval starting at a TBTT"

I look at the various cites.

P2372.6

Channel access by a DMG STA is related to beacon interval timing and is coordinated using a schedule.

This sets it up and it is clear that they have assumed a “beacon interval” is the period between two beacons.  I think the intention is “related to the interval between beacons”

So change to

Channel access by a DMG STA is related to the interval between beacons and is coordinated using a schedule.

Then use similar in the rest.

At P2372.19

Change:

Medium time within a DMG or CMMG BSS is divided into beacon intervals. Subdivisions within the beacon interval are called access periods. Different access periods within a beacon interval have different access rules.

To

Medium time within a DMG or CMMG BSS is divided into the interval between beacons. Subdivisions within this interval are called access periods. Different access periods within this interval have different access rules.

P2372.52

Change:

Figure 10-63 (Example of access periods within a beacon interval) illustrates an example of access periods within a beacon interval comprising a BTI, an A-BFT, an ATI, and two CBAPs and SPs within the DTI.

To

Figure 10-63 (Example of access periods within interval between beacons) illustrates an example of access periods within intervals between beacons comprising a BTI, an A-BFT, an ATI, and two CBAPs and SPs within the DTI.

P2373.20

Change:

Figure 10-64 (Example of access periods within a beacon interval for CMMG STAs) illustrates an example of access periods within a beacon interval for a 1080 MHz CMMG BSS

To

I was asked to start a thread on CID 1992:

The proposed change is:

In 3.2, change the definition of "beacon interval"

[from

beacon interval: The time interval between two consecutive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs).]

to:
beacon interval: An interval of time equal to the time interval between two consecutive target beacon transmission times (TBTTs).
NOTE--A beacon interval is a duration; it does not necessarily start at a TBTT.
In 10.2.3.2 change "within an interval of time equal to one beacon interval" to "within one beacon interval"
In [10.39.2] (first one) change "within a beacon interval" to "in the time interval between TBTTs" (or "within a beacon interval starting at a TBTT"?)
In [10.39.2] (others) change "within a beacon interval" to "within a beacon interval starting at a TBTT"

Thanks,

Mark
