--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

Dear 802.11,

Our July session in San Diego was quite productive and I’ve provided a brief summary for those who are interested in the results of the 802 EC review of our requests during Friday afternoon .

The 802 EC approved the 802.11 requests to

Grant conditional approval to forward TGad to RevCom.

Forward the PAR for revision project REVmc to NesCom

Forward the TGac PAR extension to NesCom.

Forward the TGaj (CMMW) new project PAR to NesCom.

Release Press publicizing publication of 802.11aa and 802.11ae

Extend two existing Study Groups:

CMMW Study Group

PAD (Pre-Association Discovery) Study Group (formerly called ISD Study Group)

Form one new GLK Study Group (General Link  for enabling the use of 802.11 (including consideration of infrastructure BSS, PBSS, and IBSS associations) as general transit links capable of supporting 802.1 bridging (Chair pro-tem will be Donald Eastlake)

(an equivalent project is also being started in 802.1, chaired by Norm Finn - - - some portion of the work will be conducted during joint 802.1 & 802.11 meetings and teleconferences )

The 802 EC reviewed three proposed liaisons prepared by 802.11:

The following two resulted in no EC discussion and have been sent to the intended recipients.

IETF IANA Diffie-Hellman Group Liaison

Motion: Request the IEEE 802.11 WG chair transmit the liaison on slide 5 of “11-12-0970-00-0000-ietf-liaison-on-diffie-hellman-groups.potx” to the IETF Security Area Directors and any persons he deems appropriate.

ANA Request to Enable use of WNM-Notification Request frame by WFA

Move to request the ANA to place IEEE Std 802.11™-2012 Table 8-256 “WNM-Notification type” under ANA control [reference section 8.5.14.28 “WNM-Notification Request frame format”] and

Request allocation of a value, annotated as “(Reserved for use by WFA)”. Note: indication in the standard will be “Reserved”.

The third liaison resulted in extensive EC discussion and a motion requesting transmission of the liaison letter be delayed until November. As a result the liaison has not yet been sent to the intended recipients.

TRILL Liaison

Motion: Request the IEEE 802.11 WG chair transmit the liaison on slide 21 of “11-12-0621-04-0000-alternative-path-selection-protocol.pptx” to the IETF TRILL WG and any additional persons he deems appropriate.

Additionally, 802.11 approved several important items that did not require additional EC review:

·         CMMW Task Group logistics contained in document 12/0827r2

·         CMMW Meeting Logistics and Agenda  (in 12/0887r0,  slides 4 & 5) for September CMMW Interim in Beijing

·         TGac Ad Hoc Meeting  on November 8-9 in the Bay Area, for the purpose of working on comment resolution.

·         TGaf Letter Ballot (30 day) on  TGaf Draft 2.0, asking the question “Should TGaf D2.0 be forwarded to Sponsor Ballot?”

Third, updated responses and agreement text regarding the IEEE 802 relationship with ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC6 were approved for submission

Regards,

Bruce Kraemer
