802.21 Folks,
Below are a couple of comments i am having on the current version of the Req Doc i would like to share with you before tommorrow conf call
Section 1 (overview) says :
A Higher Layer MP e.g. Mobile IP shall be supported for handover and seamless session continuity
It does not sounds a very good idea to refer to Mobile IP, even if it is reffered to as an example. So often in specifications, such examples end being inconscious reference model people stick at. Why shouldn't we restrict ourselves to saying A Higher layer mobility protocol. What people should have in mind is that .21 will have to operate even if the mobility management no more happen to be made at the IP layer!!!
Section 2
The two following bullets (under the discovery sub section) do not talk about discvorey at all, but rather access selection and fast handover:
o The standard shall provide services to achieve judicious and optimum selection of L2 networks prior to the handover process initiation (hints as link utilization, quality and cost
o The standard shall provide services to timely trigger the handover process
Therefore, appropriate sub sections must be created by the editor
The following bullet should be under the layer tiggers sub section of the architecture section.
o The standard shall provide SAP for MAC/PHY/MM information presentation to Higher layer mobility protocol and lower layers
General
There are a number of other re-arangements that need to be performed within or across sections. In the current stage of the document, it is very difficult to really capture the substance of the information contained because that information has not yet been structured in a consistent thematic approach. One hour conf call won't make it possible to achieve this editorial effort. Let's do it as soon as possible in order to have future good progress. We will definitely also need a day of additional discussion during the plenary to complete the document.
