Hi Peretz/Phillip/Michael/All,
Thanks for clarification. Let me
summarize. I see following pieces of the puzzle:
a.
802.21 would define abstract triggers and
send request for media specific changes to 802.16g.
b.
802.16g would make appropriate MAC / PHY
changes required to support such triggers.
c.
WIMAX forum inter-ASN MM would use MIH
triggers along with other information to make
inter-ASN
mobility decision.
Basically I see the main work is being
done by 802.16g upon request from .21 because it is the one who is making
necessary changes to support various triggers required for L3 mobility
management. Please comment if I missed anything here.

Ajoy

The answer is mixed. Yes R3MM (inter
ASN) is within NWG scope indeed. However, triggers and information from MIH
could be part of the MM decision process. It will not heart to have the MM
receive MIH info if such available. Could MM execute R3 mobility w/o MIH info
or triggers, yes. Could MIH help MM, also yes.
Ajoy: Having said the
above, WiMAX NWG will address inter technology HO in release 2. It may be more
practical to deal with MIH during that period (mid 2006).

Hi Prakash,
Which working group
of 802.16 is working to define triggers for inter-subnet L3 handoff? I am not
sure
if 802.21 is defining
inter-technology handoff itself. Rather it is defining triggers, information
elements
etc for higher layer
mobility management protocol.

Intra
802.16 handovers are being addressed in various 802.16TGs and the WiMAX Forum.
So I do not see a need for .21 to work on .16
handovers.
If .21
identifies specific deficiencies, then perhaps we can figure out where to
add/fix them.

802.21 mostly applies
to handovers across heterogeneous technologies such as 802.11, 802.16, etc.
and Cellular systems.
However intra 802.11
handovers i.e. handovers between 802.11 ESSs are also within scope of
802.21.
Along similar lines I
was wandering if 802.21 also needs to address intra 802.16 handovers (in any
form).
Did not see anything
specific to that effect in the PAR or 5 Criteria documents, so my initial
understanding is “no”.
Any clarifications
from Chairs or even other folks welcome.
