答复: [802.21] 答复: The problem of media sense of 802.21

Dear Ajay,

I understand your concerns as well as others’ in the IP issues.  The uncomfortable disclaim in my email is appended automatically by the company’s mail server if the address is outsides.  Maybe I can use my private mailbox instead.

Dear Liang and All,

Just wanted to bring to your notice that IEEE 802, as per its Policies and Procedures, is extremely sensitive that there should not be any confidentiality and copyright notices on any communication, including email sent to the its members in a public way as well as its email reflector.

Please work with your IT department so that the notice at the end of this email or any such notice does not appear within the emails sent to the reflector.

Thanks and Best regards,

-ajay

Dear Richard,

Thanks for your immediate reference to the recent related works in 802.11 WG.  11k mainly focuses on the intra-handover decision within the 802.11 network.  In such kind of network, we can suppose AP are connected together by the same ISP, and the roaming STA shares the same IP address within same sub-network.  However, the problem is a little different in the heterogeneous scenario, which, besides the signal strength and others, requires the target network to establish the agreement with the home network.  So, I want to survey how 802.21 members formulate the emerging problem as well as their contributions.

Best regards,

Liang, there has been some work in 802.11k on medium sense, but it was rejected by the 802.11 Working Group.  There was an 11k measurement called Medium Sensing Time Histogram.  If you have access to 802.11 archives, you can get 11k draft 2.0 that still contains the measurement.  In the present draft of 11k (D3.0), there is a Noise Histogram that measures the non-802.11 noise over time.

Subject: The problem of media sense of 802.21

Dear all,

I am a researcher in China working for the handover issue and also a new to the 802.21 community.  I understand that the goal of 802.21 is to provide the integrated wireless networking service among 3G, 2G, WiFi, WiMax, etc., without the interruption of upper layer applications.  So it should be an issue to detect the available wireless network before the handover.  And the necessary information to be probed in advance might include the signal strength, bandwidth, price and the accessibility between the new network and the current used network.

Due to my insufficient cultivation in the 802.21 communication, could anyone here show me your pervious work on the topic of media sense please?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Liang Chen
