Re: [802.3_100GEL] Resend: Comments #56 & #48 - Requesting Re-opening

Hi Beth and Kent,

I object to re-opening either comment. There is no issue with the current wording. The request is to reword based on a preference rather than technical problem with the wording. The choice of words approved in the comment were based upon a good deal of offline discussion. If he feels this is worth pursuing, Piers can address this with a comment against D1.2 and in the meantime work on gaining consensus for such changes.

Subject: [802.3_100GEL] Comments #56 & #48 - Requesting Re-opening

Dear Colleagues –

Piers has requested that we reconsider comments #56 & 48 in our next call (see below).  To be clear, these requests were received within the deadline, we were just working through a few logistics.  I apologize for the delay.

Given that these edits are minor (some may say editorial), I’d like to ask if there is anyone who would object to these modifications?  Please do so via the reflector…

Closed response is AIP:    Replace struck through text with:    "Bits F0 and F1 are only used for 10 Gb/s per lane operation PHYs. F2 and F3 are used for resolving FEC operation for 25G PHYs. F4 is used by 100G PHYs where RS-FEC-Int (See Clause 161) is an alternative to the default RS-FEC (See Clause 91)."

Proposed re-opening would remove the word only.

AIP:  Replace struck through text with:    "Bits F0 and F1 are used for 10 Gb/s per lane operation PHYs.  [. . .]

Closed response is AIP:  Change text in 73.6.5.a to:

"For 100GBASE-P PHYs which support RS-FEC-Int (see Clause 161) in addition to RSFEC

(see Clause 91) the F4 field is used to negotiate which FEC sublayer is to be used. If

either PHY requests RS-FEC-Int operation then RS-FEC-Int sublayer is enabled, otherwise

RS-FEC sublayer is enabled."

Proposed re-opening would change ‘support’ to ‘can include.’

AIP:  Change text in 73.6.5.a to: "For 100GBASE-P PHYs which can include RS-FEC-Int (see Clause 161) in addition to RSFEC (see Clause 91) the F4 field is used to negotiate which FEC sublayer is to be used.  [. . .]
