I would tend to agree with Duane in this choice. The only supported data rates in the future 802.3av will be based on the multiples of 1000 Mbit/s thus it is pointless and impractical from the user point of view to see all the trailing zeros. I would agree to have them cut and use the 1G/10G designators ... Otherwise strange naming constructs will be present, namely 10G/10G-1000BASE or 10G/10G/1000BASE quoted by Duane. I think that if we can simplify the naming conventions, we should do that for the sake of clarity and simplicity ...

Wael,
Only to provide a shorter crisper naming convention.  Also I think it is 
more intuitive if all the rate fields are in the same base (how would 
10G/1000BASE look much less 10G/10G/1000BASE) ?
