Re: [8023-10GEPON] D/S power budget & wavelenght plan

All
I think someone has some misunderstanding on the datasheet. For PIN (or APD) Rx, the average sensitivity in spec is typ. -20dBm ~ -21dBm now. But please pay attend to the test conditions. The conditions may be Rext=12dB or higher, temperature is 25C and beginning of life. The worst sensitivity may not show in spec.
But we have to reference the worst conditions in our design. The worst conditions are Rext=9dBm (OLT Tx spec at EOL), over temperature and end of life. The worse sensitivity at EOL generally 1.5dB ~ 2dB worse than typ. sensitivity.
Again, for module design, the 1-2dB margin is needed for PCB noise, filter and others.
The typical module sensitivity may be around -16dBm ~ -17dBm w/o FEC in production.

Best regards
Hao

I was referring to 2 commercially available (not experimental) PIN-PD ROSAs. Both had sensitivity of -21dBm for BER of 1x10E-12.

I will be glad to provide the datasheets to anyone who requests it. Because of IEEE policy, I cannot upload it to the server.

Dear Akihiro Otaka,

My proposal does not consider FEC to meet the power budget.

I heard that a ROSA(PIN-PD) with -21dBm was reported experimentally.

I am not sure if the aggressive PIN-PD can be commercially achieved near future.

I think that we have to keep the consistency with the existing standard if possible.

So I suggest that the FEC should be just optional like 1G EPON.

Sincerely yours,

Dear, Mr. Yoon

This is Akihiro Otaka in NTT.
Thank you for the presentaiton.

I have a simple question.
I understand that your proposal is based on the aggressive
PIN and APD without FEC.

How do you think about the difference between;
1) normal PD with FEC
and
2) aggressive PD without FEC?

Best regards,
Akihiro Otaka
