TP2 topics
Note - topics that have concluded during previous calls are recorded in those minutes and are dropped from these minutes.
  • TWDP test pattern (from AnAi or BnBi)
    • Stitching long patterns is not excluded, but we have not yet determined what pattern (length) is required.
  • Scope noise and jitter compensation method/sentences
    • Re-confirmed that simple rss subtraction of O/E & scope contribution is appropriate.
    • RJ magnitude, currently 0.033 UI rms may cause unjustified stress to Rx and can possibly be reduced. Evidence of modules < 1 psec.
    • Scope jitter can be less than this, but requirement is based on RJ spec. Scope folks to report on instrumentation capabilities.
  • Clock recovery/tracking
    • Uncorrelated jitter test - CR should track per 4 MHz high pass spec.
      • Questions to scope folks
        • How sensitive are the tracking bandwidths of CRs, new and old, to the 4-11 variations in square wave pattern? Do some lose lock as run lengths get too long or short?
        • How do histogram accumulation times compare between using one edge of a 16986 bit pattern vs. a square wave?
      • From this, determine which type of waveform is preferred for this test.
    • TWDP test
      • Watch this and see if a need comes up from analysis or testing.
  • OMA square wave pattern
    • Related to previous topic.
    • Discussion that consistency of results would improve if run length range, currently 4-11, is reduced. Range is set by 802.3ae, but Pavel suggested that the range is flexible and that LRM should try to restrict it.
    • Tom believes that longer (8-11) is better to allow more time for transient settling for improved OMA accuracy.
  • MATLAB code review
    • John and Vivek attempting independent calculations. John within +/-0.2 dB, has not had time to check with Gaussian waveform. Vivek has achieved agreement out to several decimal places.
    • How many channels/fibers are required for TWDP test? May be less than for TP3, since it uses an ideal (very long) equalizer. Not concluded, but goal is to minimize.
    • NEW - discussion about threshold - mid vs. mean? Topic was raised, but agreed to leave it at mid. Norm believes this is best because it avoids getting into implementations.
  • More TP2 waveforms - do we have the right TWDP and TP3 values? Other response shapes?
    • Suppliers need to evaluate transmitters, receivers, waveshapes, etc. to be sure we draw the line correctly. TWDP and TP3 limits currently ~5 dB.
  • Rx overload (driven by Rx folks?)
    • Watch and respond as required.
