RE: Why not have both?
Sounds like going with Howard's proposal will move
us forward. I like the idea of having both a 10000BASEnx
and a 9548BASEnx.
But, looking at the nomenclature, is "BASE" carrying
any information anymore? It was used to distinguish
Manchester from the "BROAD" used on a carrier.
In the recent clauses, the suffix has carried the information
- TX, T4, T2, CX..
Perhaps the different KINDS of physical medias could be
distinguished (again) by the middle term.
Fiber/Copper/Sonet/Serial/Parallel etc....
