Today, at GbE rate, even FP transceivers are twice the cost of VCSEL
transceivers. Another factor affecting the cost is the volume. After all,
VCSEL transceiver has over 85% of the GbE market which will keep the cost
down.

A DFB without the requirement for high sidemode suppresion should not have
a cost significantly higher than that of a Fabry-Perot laser. Today, 1.3u
F-P die are roughly at parity with 0.85u VCSEL die. A 0.65u F-P laser die
is less than half as expensive as a VCSEL.
