Ed, A DFB without the requirement for high sidemode suppresion should not have a cost significantly higher than that of a Fabry-Perot laser. Today, 1.3u F-P die are roughly at parity with 0.85u VCSEL die. A 0.65u F-P laser die is less than half as expensive as a VCSEL. Jay
