Re: [802.3_PDCC] rewrite homework item

I now use the ISO/IEC Ethernet  JTC 1/SC 25 group term "link" in items I'm writing, it avoids the tortuous cable and connectors phrase.

link: transmission path between two cabling system interfaces, including the connections at each end
Published in:    ISO/IEC 11801, ed. 2.0

Then you can talk about the link current capability, which includes both wire and connector contacts.

Mick

Hi George,

Thank you for providing the two text options for consideration.

My preference is to go with the George1 text.

Regards,

David Tremblay

George,

Thanks for this effort. I am a fan of option “George1”.

All – at the PDCC meeting, I took the action item to propose a rewrite of the statement below, so it did not require careful parsing of a comma to indicate that that the requirement referred to all external paired conductor cables with a diameter of 0.4mm:

Chad:

PSE circuits connected to external paired conductor cable, such as those described in Table 13 of IEC 62368-1, having a minimum wire diameter of 0,4 mm shall have the current limited to not more than 1,3 A.

I ended up with 2 versions, which I was arguing with myself over, and between Chad and Geoff they each preferred one or the other for the same reasons.  Hence, please provide your insight &/or preference:

George1: this one goes for 2 shorter sentences, easier to parse for non-native speakers (or to translate); however, it is a bigger change in the actual text:

PSE circuits connected to external paired conductor cable having a minimum wire diameter of 0,4 mm shall have the current limited to not more than 1,3 A.  Examples of such cables are described in Table 13 of IEC 62368-1.

George2: this one makes a smaller text change, just moving an existing clause within the sentence to avoid the comma-break.  However, it is a complex sentence, more difficult to parse:

PSE circuits connected to external paired conductor cable having a minimum wire diameter of 0,4 mm, such as those described in Table 13 of IEC 62368-1, shall have the current limited to not more than 1,3 A.
