Re: [802SEC] 802.11 WG Origins -- 802.4L Thru Air Media?

Dear Guido, Al, and All,

The 802.4 C Thru Air Media Amendment Project Approval is attached. Note that it was approved 10 December 1987. Unfortunately I don't know of any surviving members of that project (Chandos Rypinski and Paul Eastman passed away). It would be great if someone does.

I know Chandos references 802.4L, but there is no record of it, only 802.4C, he may have mis-remembered in contribution 5-06/0107. Chandos was a great 802 volunteer, I remember him well from his many contributions to various 802 groups..

Regards,

--Paul

Hi Paul, Hi Al, Hi all,

No, nothing has been prepared yet for the 802.11 Working Group. I think it will be great if you could trace the 802.11WG back to its origins in 802.4 -- there was a project named 802.4L Thru Air Media in the late 1980s that I think eventually morphed into 802.11 in 1990.

15-06/0107 claims that everything started with IEEE 802.4L. Might be
worthwhile to have a look at this contribution.

Have a nice weekend, best regards,

Guido
