Re: [STDS-802-11] Deprecation of IBSS, MBSS and/or PBSS (11me/D1.0 CIDs 1639, 1640 and 1641)

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Hi Mark,

Please move CIDs 1639,1640, and 1641 to GEN.

All deprecate/obsolete comments are handled in the GEN adhoc.

Thanks,

Mike

Just to be clear: deprecation is easy: you just put "X is deprecated"

in one or two places.  Removing a feature can indeed be a lot of work,

but that seldom happens (and you have to mark the feature obsolete

and subject to removal first, too).  Deprecation just means you'd not

going to worry about maintaining that feature.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

My opinion is against removing IBSS and MBSS. To me, it would be a lot of work to remove IBSS and MBSS. And once the work was done and published, we'd find people upset with us for doing the work.

11me/D1.0 CIDs 1639, 1640 and 1641 propose to mark IBSS, PBSS and MBSS

respectively as deprecated, on the basis that it is not clear anyone cares

about these modes of operation anymore, and that they are not being

maintained (or alternatively one could say the cost of maintaining

them is not worth it, or the expertise needed to maintain them is

lacking).

This thread is to solicit opinions on these proposals.

Thanks,

Mark
