Re: [STDS-802-16] SF creation

Saba,

There are types of service flows – pre-provisioned and dynamic.

The pre-provisioned SFs are provisioned by NMS during the service provisioning. Once a SS enters the network, BS will create the pre-provisioned SFs using DSA messages. The example usage of this type of SFs is Internet connection.

The dynamic SFs is similar to the telephony model where calls are created and deleted dynamically. An example is for VoIP applications to create and delete SFs.

Subject: [STDS-802-16] SF creation

Hi,

I have been researching on 802.16 for a while now. I have a few confusions
and questions regarding the service flow creation in the standard published
in 2004. The basic question I have is

"How and when is a service flow created for data? The standard says that it
is initiated by upper layers and is out of the scope of the standard. But
having standard network layers above, who decides that it is time for
service flow creation?"

Thanks for your time and sorry for the previous mail
